Abstract

This study investigates the mediating role of bank loan quality (BLQ) on the relation between the board of directors’ characteristics (BOD) and bank value (BV) in banks listed on the Egyptian stock exchange over a 10- year period from 2014 to 2023. A Tobin Q. – based measure is used as a proxy for bank value. Seven measures of board of directors’ characteristics (BODSIZ, CEODO, BODIND, GENDIV, BODEDU, BODMEET, CEOEXP). The mediation variable Bank loan quality is measured using non-performing loans. The SPSS version of PROCESS is used to estimate the total, direct and indirect effects of BOD characteristics on bank value. Bootstrap samples for percentile bootstrap confidence intervals are 5000. Results revealed that BLQ mediates the impact of BOD characteristics on bank value. Relative to banks that do not have BOD characteristics items, banks with BOD characteristics are, on average c amounts presented in table (14) with higher/lower in their bank value. Holding BLQ constant, banks with levels of BOD characteristics are estimated on table (15) with higher/ lower in their bank value than firms that don't have levels of BOD characteristics.
